Inspirational Vlogger Redefines Beauty: BORN DIFFERENT

A 21-YEAR-OLD vlogger is making a name for herself on YouTube with her make-up tutorials – despite being born with a facial tumour that leaves her unable to speak or eat.

‘Accept yourself’: Marimar is spreading an important message of self-love

Marimar Quiora once hid her face from strangers in the street, but now proudly bares her beauty to millions of people who follow her online.

Marimar was born with a facial tumour called cystic hygroma, which means she has to use sign language in her videos to communicate.

But the inspirational student won’t let anything hold her back, and now she is turning traditional beauty standards on their head with her powerful message of self-love.

Marimar, from California, said: “To me, beauty means to accept yourself for who you are, and to ignore what other people tell you.

Inspirational: She has over five million views on her YouTube channel

“You show your beauty how it is, it doesn’t matter if you have a different looking face, accept yourself how you are.”

Marimar’s mum Maria didn’t know of her condition until after she was born and in her younger years she would struggle with her appearance.

Marimar said: “It has affected my mouth since before birth. Before, my face and head were bigger and I went through the process of many surgeries over several years to shrink my face and mouth to what you see today.

“It affects me in several ways. I cannot speak, I breathe through a hole in my throat, I eat through a tube in my stomach and the hearing in my right ear is diminished.”

Brave Marimar has undergone multiple procedures over the years to shrink the tumour but now she is embracing her beauty and encouraging others to do the same.

She said: “When I was younger I would talk to myself in the mirror. I would tell myself I was beautiful.

“I would encourage myself and list all the things that were good about me and it built my confidence through the years.

“What I like about makeup and beauty is imagining new looks, especially around the eyes, and showing people they’re beautiful no matter what.”

Marimar had always been interested in makeup but two years ago she decided to throw caution to the wind and start her own video blog on YouTube – and she could never have predicted it’s success.

Now Marimar has had over five million views and gets countless messages from women who she has inspired.

She said: “People type their comments after they view my videos, and they say some really nice things. They tell me I’m beautiful and they love my makeup.”

Sadly not everyone has been so positive about Marimar’s venture, and she has received some abuse from online trolls.

Marimar said: “I have encountered negative people both on YouTube and out in my daily life. People tell me I look like a monkey, that my mouth is wrong and people stare at me, I see them staring.

“When people say negative things to me I either tell them to stop or just ignore them. But if people are staring at me, I stare right back and refuse to look away until they stop.”

Marimar’s biggest fans are her mum Maria and her older sister, Airam, 24.

Maria said: “I say to her she can do whatever she wants – with some limitation – but still she can do everything.

“She said she wants to go traveling and go many places and inspire other people and give thanks to God that’s she’s alive with a lot of energy.

“If she wants to do it then I’m with her – whatever she wants.”

Airam added: “Ever since she was little she’s managed to figure things out. She took grasp of what her condition was and made the best of it.”

“Personally she inspires me because it’s not easy having the condition she has, everybody looking at you, everybody staring at you and for us as a family its been hard to do this together.

“To see her get up every day and keep doing what she does, it’s not easy.”

As well as making her videos, Marimar is also training to become a teacher for deaf children and attends beauty school in the evening.

She is also a Zumba instructor and teaches a class every week.

Marimar said: “I started going to Zumba classes about two years ago. As I learned it became really fun for me.

Bravery: ‘Accept yourself, accept your image – that’s what matters’

“I loved it so I decided to earn my certificate last year in August of 2015 to teach Zumba class.

“My condition doesn’t hold me back in any way – there is nothing I can’t do.”

Marimar does not know how her condition will affect her further down the line, but she has big plans for her future.

She said: “I hope to get married someday and have a family, have my own beauty line, travel and teach people around the world about makeup and my life experience.”

“It doesn’t matter how you look or how you feel about your body. Accept yourself, accept your image – that’s what matters.”

Postal worker credited with saving man’s life

BOULDER – The United States Postal Service is in crunch time during the holidays with an estimated 16 billion packages and mail expected to be delivered from Thanksgiving through the end of the year.

In Boulder, postal worker Adrian Helwig says it’s a good thing he picked up another route after working a 12-hour shift on December 5. If he hadn’t, he may not have been able to save an elderly man’s life.

Helwig says he was delivering mail to a home in a rural area around 8 p.m. when he heard a faint call for help. After taking a closer look, he saw an elderly man “crumpled” on the ground, unable to get back up after falling.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office says the 86-year-old man was not wearing shoes and was not dressed for the 20-degree weather outside. The man had been outside for at least two hours looking for his dog, according to deputies.

Helwig says he wrapped the elderly man in a “bear hug” and rushed him indoors, where he got him a blanket and called 911.

The sheriff’s office says Helwig likely saved the man’s life.

Some may call him a hero, but Helwig believes it’s his duty to keep an eye out for neighbors, adding that postal workers are often the eyes and ears of the community.

Monroeville officer talks about saving man’s life during mall shooting

Tonight that officer is talking for the first time only to Marcie Cipriani. Marcie. Reporter: well, there is no question there is mee emotional. He tells me it took time for him to be able to talk about what happened without crying. It is easy to see why. He is the reason a husband and father didn’t die that day at the mall. 400 mall circle drive. An underage male with a gunshot wound. P.M. February 7th. Got shot wound in the shoulder. Chaos inside the Monroeville mall was just beginning. Put into the trend outside of Macy’s. Exited by car. Grabbed my rifle and go bag. Pierre Defe lees was one of the first to arrive. Knowing by the desperate radio transmissions that he would likely find a violent scene. There is a large amount of blood. Rifle in hand and unaware if the gunman was shooting, a man lying on the floor, that man was Thomas singleton who had been shot while walking inside Macy’s with his wife and young son. I wasn’t going to let just this guy die on the mall floor. That wasn’t going to be his last day he saw his dad on the mall floor.

He said that was his motivation but his training came in and he knew the man was dying fast. I couldn’t place a tourniquet because and gave it to ems. He stopped the bleeding seven minutes after the 911 call. I do believe if he waited, the patient would have died on the way to the hospital. Police were trained to use tourniquets just this past September when Monroeville issued them to each officer. Takes about 30 seconds to learn how to do that p. He is not only a police officer but a tactical paramedic but still this is his first time using the tourniquet and Schwartz said that simple act saved singleton’s life. He is certain of it. Though he wasn’t on scene, he watched the care later from the mall’s cameras. You could see this patient dying in front of your eyes on camera. And I don’t believe he would have survived. It was very close when he came to the hospital. 24 minutes after the call for help, singleton was at forbs regional as his his wife and Yvonne jones both shot in the mall as well.

Single top continues for hours with fellow police officers checking the mall, clearing the seen and searching for the shooter but the singletons weighed on his mind. I have been thinking about all of them off and on for the past couple weeks. After released from the hospital, the police officer knew he today shad to see the family again. As soon as the wife saw me, she burst into tears. She immediately recognized him. As soon as I met him, he said, I remember your voice, I remember you tell meg whing me what was going on.

The wife said everything was so chaotic and I was so calm. That reassured her that things were in the process of coming under control. That makes it all worth while. That’s what it is all about. And the reason he said he is grateful that he answered that call for help so quickly. Police charged 17-year-old thorn hill with the shooting inside the mall and since then the mall has put age restrictions in place after certain hours and past Friday police opened substation there as violent as the shooting was
